Then shall the Minister, kneeling down at the Table, say in the name of all them that shall receive the Communion this Prayer following; the people also kneeling.

E do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

¶Then the Minister shall offer the following Prayer.

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; who made there (by his one oblation of himself once offered) a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death, until his coming again; Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that we receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood: who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you Do this in remembrance of me. Likewise, after

supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of this; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.

Amen.

Then shall the Minister first receive the Communion in both kinds himself, and proceed to deliver the same to the other officiating Ministers in like manner, (if any be present,) and after that to the People also in order, into their hands. And when he delivereth the Bread, he shall say,

THE

HE Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for thee, and feed on him in thy heart by faith with thanksgiving.

THE

¶ And the Minister that delivereth the Cup shall say,

HE Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ's Blood was shed for thee, and be thankful.

When all have communicated, the Minister shall return to the Lord's Table, and place upon it what remaineth of the Elements, covering the same with a fair linen cloth.

After which he shall pray as followeth :

LORD and Heavenly Father, we thy humble servants entirely desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching thee to grant, that by the merits and death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his blood, we and all thy whole Church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion. And here we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto thee; humbly beseeching thee, that all we who are partakers of this holy Communion, may be fulfilled with thy grace and heavenly benediction. And although we be unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer unto thee any sacrifice, yet we beseech thee to accept this our bounden duty and service; not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offences, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.

¶ Then shall be said by the Minister, the Congregation joining with him,

GLO

LORY be to God on high, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

us.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Then the Minister, if he see it expedient, may offer a Prayer extempore; and afterwards shall let the people depart with this Blessing:

THE peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord: and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you and remain with you always. Amen.

THE

Ministration of Baptism

TO INFANTS.

Before the administration of this Sacrament, the Minister shall ascertain whether or not the infant has been previously baptized.

All parents bringing their children to be baptized are to be reminded that they thereby devote them to God, and are pledged to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; and that the Sacrament of Baptism is administered on their virtual promise, by the grace of God, so to do.

Both parents are to be present, if possible.

DEAR

¶ The Minister shall say to the Congregation,

EARLY beloved, forasmuch as our Lord Jesus Christ gave commandment to his Church to make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and whereas these persons here present do bring this child, and do now present him for holy baptism, let us, being gathered together in the Name of Christ and in obedience to his command, hear for our instruction and encouragement in this service the teaching of his holy Word.

JESUS

ESUS came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. -Matt. xxviii. 18-20.

They brought unto him little children, that he should touch them and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me;

forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein. And he took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.-Mark x. 13-16.

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.-Genesis xvii. 7.

I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.-Isaiah xliv. 3.

DE

EARLY beloved, ye have now heard the words of our Saviour Christ, that he sent forth his servants to make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost; that he commanded the children to be brought unto him, and blamed those that would have kept them from him. Ye perceive how by his outward gesture and deed he declared his goodwill toward them, how he embraced them in his arms, laid his hands upon them, and blessed them. Doubt ye not, therefore, but earnestly believe, that he will likewise favourably receive this present infant; that he will embrace him with the arms of his mercy, and will give unto him the Holy Spirit, to the end that he may be a partaker of his heavenly kingdom.

Wherefore we, being thus persuaded of the goodwill of our heavenly Father towards this infant, declared by his Son Jesus Christ, and nothing doubting that he favourably alloweth this godly work of ours in bringing this infant to his holy baptism, let us devoutly give thanks unto him; and pray that, of his bounteous mercy, his Holy Spirit may be given to this child: and also to his parents, who here present him in this holy sacrament; that they may be enabled to fulfil the solemn covenant into which they are now entering; so that this child, being sheltered from the dangers and temptations of the world, kept safe from ungodly teaching and example, and brought up in the nurture and admonition of the
