268 Abner Mayesh Ajahel. Ifrael, and reigned two years. houfe of Judah followed David.

But the fand became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.

11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah, was feven years and fix months.

12 And Abner the fon of Ner, and the fervants of botheth the fon of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13 And Joab the fon of Zeruiah, and the fervants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they fat down, the one on the one fide of the pool, and the other on the other fide of the pool.

14 And Abner faid to Joab, Let the young men now arife, and play before us. And Joab faid, Let them arife.

26 Then Abner called to Joab,and said, Shall the fword devour forever? Knoweft thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long shall it be then,ere thou bid the people return from follow. ing their brethren?

27 And Joab faid, As God liveth, un. lefs thou hadft fpoken, furely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.

28 So joab blew a trumpet, and all the people ftood ftill,and purfued after Ifrael no more, neither fought they any more.

NOW there was a long war between the house of_Saul and the house of David but David waxed ftronger and ftronger, and the houfe of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

21 And Abner faid to him, Turn thee afide to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young 2 And unto David were fons born in men, and take thee his armour. 30 So Joab and Abishai his brother flew Abner, becaufe he had flain their brother Afahel at Gibeon in the battle.

31 And David faid to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with fackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king Da vid bimself followed the bier.

32 And they buried Abner in Hebron : and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.

33 And the king lamented over Abner, and faid, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

34 Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, fo felleft thou. And all the people wept again over him.

20 And, What can David fay more unto thee: for thou, LORD God, knoweft

5 Go and tell my fervant David, Thus faith the LORD, Shalt thou build me anthy.iervant. houfe for me to dwell in ?

6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any houfe fince the time that I brought up the children of Ifrael cut of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

9 And I was with thee whitherfoever thou wenteft, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy fight, and have made

21 For thy word's fake, and according to thine own heart, haft thou done all these great things to make thy fervant know them.

22 Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God for there is none like thee, neither is there any God betide thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

23 And, What one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Ifrael, whom God went to redeem for a people to himfelf, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people which thou redeemedft to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

24 For thou haft confirmed to thy felf thy people Ifrael, to be a people unto thee for ever and thou, LORD, art become their God.
