Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly... Ps. cxxxviii. 6.

The Lord lifteth up the meek.-Ps. cxlvii. 6.

For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.-Ps. cxlix. 4. ...He giveth grace unto the lowly.-Prov. iii. 34. ...With the lowly is wisdom.-Prov. xi. 2.

Before honour is humility.-Prov. xv. 33.

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.—Prov. xvi. 19. By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.-Prov. xxii. 4.

...Honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.-xxix. 23.

If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.-Prov, xxx. 32.

...The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Eccl. vii. 8.

Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.-Isa. lvii. 15.

The Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek.-Isa. lxi. 1.

Thus saith the Lord,... Isa. lxvi. 1.

...To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.-2.

When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel...Hosea xiii. 1.

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?-Micah vi. 8.

Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger.-Zeph. ii. 3.

THE SIN OF PRIDE AND

HAUGHTINESS.

Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God,... Deut. viii. 11.

Lest when thou hast...built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;-12.

...And all that thou hast is multiplied;-13.

Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God,...14.

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.-17. ...That he (the king) may learn to fear the Lord his God,...Deut. xvii. 19.

That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren...20.

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth...1 Sam. ii. 3. ...Thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.-2 Sam. xxii. 28.

When he (Uzziah) was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God.-2 Ch. xxvi. 16.

...His (Hezekiah's) heart was lifted up therefore there was wrath upon him,...2 Ch. xxxii. 25.
