Angle Vise, Model A

These are likewise of the Söderfors make, and are manufactured from Dannemora Cast Steel. The jaws have steel backs, not loosely set in, as is mostly the case with vises of other manufacture, but constituent hardened parts of the body of the vise. Screw and casing (on parallel vises the nut) are made of moderately hard, tough material, and have strong square screw-threads. Thanks to the excellent material employed, they have very great power of resistance when subjected to side strains.

Products

The Timber Industry was first taken up at Domnarvet in 1789, and shows the same development as the Iron Industry. Towards the end of the 19th century the Company had a considerable number of small mills in the interior of the country, which naturally proved rather uneconomical, especially when exports began to expand. Consequently the Company acquired, in 1885, the saw mills at Skutskär on the coast of the Baltic (Gefle district), where the manufacture of wood goods for export is now concentrated.

In addition to the Skutskär Saw Mills, and to replace the saw mill at the Domnarvet Iron & Steel Works, which was then closed down, a new saw mill was erected at Bysjön in 1921-22. The charcoal kilns were also removed there from Domnarvet.

The logs are furnished chiefly by the vast forests belonging to the Company, and are floated down the river Dalelven to the mills.

The Saw Mills at Skutskär include 19 frames, 6 edging benches, 5 stavebenches, and 3 planers.

Logs sawn annually under normal conditions total about 12 million pieces, and yield about 35/40000 Standards, which are exported to all parts of the world.

The output of Bysjön Saw Mill is 7000 Standards sawn timber, reserved chiefly for the needs of the Domnarvet Iron & Steel Works and the Kvarnsveden Paper Mills. The surplus is sold locally or exported.

Skutskär (District of Gefle). Open water generally from April to December.

of the

Side by side with the Timber Industry the Chemical Pulp Industry developed. Development The Skutskär (Harnäs) Sulphate Pulp Mills, at Harnäs, shown below, were erected in Chemical 1894, in order to utilize the smaller logs floated down to the saw mills, as well as Pulp Industry the waste products obtained there. The corresponding Skutskär (Harnäs) Sulphite Pulp Mill was started in 1900.

18000 Tons strong and bleachable sulphate pulp, air dry weight, and 24000 Tons strong unbleached sulphite pulp, air dry weight.
