General The Sievert blowlamps and soldering appliances have proved their worth by retaining the lead on the market for over forty years. The business was established in 1882, and the continuous growth since then is a conclusive proof that the Sievert products have always met with favour. Sievert soldering and brazing apparatus are also made for burning kerosene (paraffin) of about 0-8 specific gravity.

Soldering butts for burning benzoline are of practical and strong design combining safety and economy. They are, as well as many of the Benzoline lamps, supplied with or without pump and, in some cases, also with effective selfcleaning nipple, unexcelled for reliability and efficiency.

Cooking- The »Svea» kerosene (paraffin) icickless cooking-stoves, stoves »Svea» alwavs stamped with the above trade marks are unrivalled in design and workmanship. They have double soldered bottom and pump valve accessible from outside. The filling plug is winged, instead of flat knob difficult to turn. The attachment of the feet, which are provided with foot plates, is extremely durable.

This invention was made by Dr. J. Ruths, the well-known Swedish mechanical and General electrical engineer, Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Science, and formerly technical director and consulting engineer of the largest paper manufacturing concern in Europe.

The invention is being exploited by the Swedish firm: Aktiebolaget Vaporackumulator.

Up to the present about 116 steam accumulator installations have been ordered and of these about 60 are in operation, several since the year 1918. The majority of the plants in operation are in the Scandinavian countries. Three plants are under construction in the United States and Canada and one in England, five in Holland, two in France, ten in Germany, and three in Czechoslovakia.

The Ruths Steam Accumulators have been tried in various industries with full success. It has long ago passed the experimental stage, and most of the leading power plant machinery manufacturers on the Continent of Europe have acquired the exclusive manufacturing and sales rights for their countries.

Types

This system has created considerable interest amongst owners of various industrial establishments, not only because it effects a saving in fuel consumption from 15 to 25 % but also because it made it possible to increase the output of the factories in which the system has been applied, from 8 to 12 %, without increasing the operating expenses. The finished products of factories equipped with steam accumulator plants can in many cases be made more uniform, since the system provides steam of a constant and specified pressure at all times and in all departments of the factory.

The steam accumulator system effects many improvements in the organisation of the work and management of various industries, a special line in which Dr. Ruths' ability is very well-known.

The application of the system has in particular many advantages for the operation of the boiler plant by equalizing all variations of the load on the boilers. The latter have only to be stoked for generating the average steam quantity per day, which in most cases makes it possible to reduce the number of boilers needed. Boilers working at a constant load and with a constant intensity of fire are known to be far more economical than boilers which have to be more or less periodically foreed. The principal fields of application of the Ruths' system are as follows:

1. Coal and iron mining plants, blast furnaces, rolling mills, metallurgical plants, etc.

2. Chemical industries in the widest sense, such as dye works, breweries, distilleries, oil refineries, fertilizer works, etc.

3. The paper making and pulp industries.

4. The food-stuff producing industries, including sugar factories, dairies, chocolate and confectionery works, food-preserving and canning factories, etc.

5. Textile industries, including cotton, wool and silk washeries, dyeing and bleaching works.

6. Manufacturing establishments for electric material, such as rubber factories, cable works, etc.

7. Steam and electric railway, and power and light plants as stand-by plants, and steam stand-by plants for waterpower plants and substations receiving current from such.

The steam accumulators built vary in volume from 60 to 12,000 cubic feet and their steam storing capacity between 275 and 80,000 lbs.
