STOCKHOLMS DAGBLAD (STOCKHOLM DAILY NEWS) The »>Stockholms Dagblad», the first number of which appeared on the 2nd January 1824, has now reached its one-hundredth year of publication. Founded originally as a medium for the publication of official announcements, advertising for tenders, etc. by the Governor of Stockholm, the County of Stockholm and other authorities, the paper soon became, beyond all comparison, the most popular advertising organ in Stockholm and, consequently, in the whole of Sweden. In the hands of talented and capable journalists the Stockholms Dagblad toward the middle of the nineteenth century advanced to an influential position as a well-edited newspaper, while, later on, it became the leading organ of the Swedish conservative party. From the soundness of its views and the reliability of its information it was referred to as The Times» of Sweden. When, at a later date, economic problems came to the fore during the industrial and social upheaval of the last few decades, the Stockholms Dagblad became prominent for prompt and authoritative treatment of questions dealing with trade and industry, of which branches the Stockholms Dagblad became the representative journal from the very first. - The Stockholms Dagblad is still the publishing organ for official advertisements and notices, and possesses in consequence an unusually representative body of subscribers of good financial standing, and the paper, besides, is read by all classes of society owing to the quality of its staff and contributors in conjunction with good editing and management. |
