Centrifugal machines installed in Carnegie Sugar Refineries, Gothenburg Oil Separators. Handy and economical machines for the removal of oil from metal chips. Separators for the removal of oil from cotton waste and wiping Oil Separator for the removal of oil from metal chips. Type CBO of powder or smaller frag- Special Centrifugal machines for Sugar Refineries of which many equipments have been installed. The illustration at the top of this page shows an installation at the Carnegies Sugar mills at Gothenburg. Centrifugal Extractors for drying linen, thread, fabric and other textile material. Laundry Equipment The designing and construction of laundry outfits is the result of a long experience in this special line of manufacture. Only a few typical machines are mentioned here, but an idea of the completeness of the line may be gained by sending for illustrated catalogues with full particulars of same. Washing machines of the latest design in many sizes. They possess the most efficient washing and rinsing capacity with a minimum consumption of soap and other supplies. Flat-work ironer. The wash is taken directly from the extractors and is dried, ironed and finished on both sides by being passed once through the ironer. The ironer is strongly built on the most modern principles. All for laundries Engineering In addition to these machines all other equipment for laundries are built, such as dryers, rinsing machines, portable soaking-vats, tubs for preparing soap, laundry transfer cars, etc. The laundry machinery department is in charge of engineers thoroughly conversant service with laundry installations. Plans, specifications and estimates for complete laundry establishments are in consequence prepared with knowledge and care. Plate-working machines Plate-bending machine Type P Plate-working Machines The plate-working machine department builds Plate-straightening machines of particularly strong and practical design, and Heavy plate-bending machine, type P, specially designed for shipyards and large boiler works. Built in many sizes for up to 35 mm. plate, with a max. width of 10 metres. Rolling speed about 22 metres per minute. This type differs from all other makes in having no special iron-construction to relieve the strain on the thrust-bearings of the lower rolls. This strain is absorbed by the foundation, which is made of reinforced concrete, resulting in the following advantages: Special features of type P machine 1. The total deflection of the machine is reduced to a minimum, the concrete foundation being subject to less deflection than a corresponding iron beam of equal span and safety. Concrete beams are, of course, subject to less deflection than iron beams plate-bending of equal constructive height, the distance between the neutral line and the carried iron in the former being greater than half the constructive height, and the deflection practically being proportionate to the square of that distance. An iron beam, too, has a span equal to the distance between the middle lines of the outermost uprights, whereas the concrete foundation, resting as it does with its entire length on the base, has a considerably reduced span. The deflection is directly proportionate to the cube of the span, this likewise ensuring reduced deflection. The advantages mentioned above mean that practically all deflections in the lower rolls of the machine are eliminated. In the case of plate-bending machines of considerable lengths, the greatest difficulty is just the one experienced in reducing the deflections to the admissible minimum. In order to eliminate their effect, the upper roll is generally made thicker in the central part, which is less advisable in the event of smaller plate thicknesses being rolled, the radius of curvature of the plate then not being equal in the central part and at the ends respectively. The same applies also to the largest plate dimensions. 2. Reduced weight on account of the absence of any iron construction below the rolls. 3. Cheaper machine, the permanent foundation being in any case required by the machine used for a double purpose. In the event of rocky ground being available, there is a further possibility of utilizing this advantage. The machine can be used for practically all plate bending work on account of its construction, as it is also adapted for bending plates for masts, boilers, etc. The thrust-bearings which support the upper roll can easily be pushed aside, so as not to be in the way when bending cylinders of small diameters. Furthermore, the machine can be employed for straightening plates of the same dimensions as those within the bending capacity by inserting extra rolls (see fig. 1). Fig. 1 In addition to the above described products the works manufacture Sand Papering Machines, Planers, Capstans, Pile Drivers and Winches, Derricks, Warehouse Lifts, Stationary and marine boilers, especially Donkey-Rapid boilers. Also, complete outfits for Gymnasiums and Athletic grounds. Uses of plate-bending machine Type P Other products General Docks Warships Shipbuilders, Repairers, Engineers and Ironfounders Götaverken is situated in the central part of Gothenburg harbour at the very side of the free harbour. The plant covers an area of about 40 acres. Ships up to 20,000 tons d. w. can be built on four of the berths comprising five in all. At present the average size of ships in the course of construction is 10,000 tons d. w. Götaverken has the largest floating dry-dock in Scandinavia having a lifting capacity of 18,400 tons. This dock is built in two sections and each section can be operated as a separate dock. Thus each section has a lifting capacity of about 9,000 tons.
