previously accumulated experience and high technical qualifications of the staff and workers of the company. The connections outside of Sweden have been extended to all parts of the world, a policy which has been instrumental in introducing the Bolinder products in ever increasing quantities. The manufactures of the company embrace the specialities given below: Heavy Oil Engines The Bolinder heavy oil engines are all of the two-cycle type. They are designed as marine and stationary engines. Marine engines, direct reversible: 6 to 500 BHP, 1, 2, and 4 cylinders, speed 600 to 160 r. p. m., models NE, NEI and NE II Marine engines, reversible propeller blades: 6 to 80 BHP, 1 and 2 cylinders, speed 600 to 350 r. p. m. models NG and NG I Stationary engines for general service: 3 to 350 BHP, 1, 2 and 4 cylinders, speed 600 to 180 r. p. m., models NB, NH and NL. The stationary engines are also built as portable engines and locomobiles in sizes from 5 to 30 BHP. The Bolinder heavy oil engines run on low-priced petroleum distillates and heavy oils. The consumption varies from 0.52 to 0.66 lbs per BHP and hour according to type and size. The Bolinder heavy-oil engines are noted for their excellent construction, the results of many years experience and accounting for the phenomenal development of this branch, which has made Bolinder's the world's largest and best known builders of heavy oil engines of this type. The Bolinder heavy-oil engines are found in operation in all parts of the world, and are installed for power services of all kinds. Afloat they are highly appreciated being installed in a great number of vessels of different descriptions belonging to every nation. The Bolinder engines are of the so-called hot bulb type. They are characterized by simple construction and reliability under the most difficult conditions and have a very high fuel economy for engines of this type. Wood Working Machinery The firm's manufacture of Wood working machinery is principally devoted to the needs of saw mills, planing mills and box factories also drying kilns with all necessary main and auxiliary machines as enumerated in the following list: Log saws for single and double sawing, Fast-feed flooring and matchalso for sawing deals when fitted with a special device Log carriages Rip saws Cross-cut saws Bandsaws Circular saws Resaws and Band-resaws Moulding machines Planing machines Hand planers and jointers boarding machines Single surfacers Automatic box-board machine Hogging machines Shaving cutters Patent cutters Accessories, such as buckles, tillers, saws, planing irons, and knives, etc. Conveyors of various kinds Lumber yard and drying kiln Products of the manu In this branch Bolinders have done pioneer work towards reducing the amount Development of manual labour required, and at the same time increasing the productive capacity facture of the of the machines to a degree formerly unheard of. The large export of the firm's woodworking machinery products in this line proves the great advantages universally conceded to the Bolinder wood working machines. Automatic Box-board machine Automatic Box Board Machine A machine of more than ordinary interest is the firm's Automatic Box-board machine of which a reproduction is given above. This machine produces finished box shooks from rough cross-cut and sorted lumber. The boards are planed, dovetailed and jointed, either glued or not as desired into a continuous band which is cut up into shooks of required size within the limits of the machine. The entire operation is performed automatically from the time the boards are fed in until the finished box shook or end, etc. is delivered by the machine. For the operation only two men are required, a helper for feeding the boards and a man for attending the machine, planing knives, cutters and sawblades. The finished shooks are very strong, due to the special form given the tongue in jointing. They turn out to the exact desired dimensions, and are finished Bolinder's Standard Log Frame All feed rollers power driven. Continuous friction feed immediately changed, stopped or reversed. Upper feed rollers self lifting, selfadjusting and pivoted. Rate of feed 20 to 65 feet per minute. ling, beading, and straight edging. The Bolinder's standardized cutters make it unnecessary, except in very rare cases, to call for special cutters. With regard to the advantages of using Bolinder's cutters in place of ordinary planing irons, these are so many and decisive that competition between. them is out of question. Distinctive features in the cutters are: Exact profile, the form of which is retained until the cutter is entirely worn out; advantageous cutting angle; the ease with which they are sharpened; increased number of teeth; each tooth exactly alike and doing an equal amount of work; absolutely correct balance; facility for exchanging, etc. Steam Engines and Boilers One of Bolinder's oldest specialities has been the manufacture of machines for steam power plants such as steam engines, steam boilers, superheaters, feed water heaters, etc. Great success has been attained of late years by the firm's »Drop piston valve engines» which have shown very remarkable fuel economy and have proved eminently reliable. When using low pressure steam for drying kilns, heating, paper machines, these engines will give more economical service than any other system. Steam boilers of the most modern design are manufactured and a speciality is made of steam boiler installations for burning fuel of low value such as peat, saw dust, shavings etc. Cutters |
