On second reading of House bills, House bill No. 1 was taken up, read a second time and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

House joint and concurrent resolution No. 3, to the Committee on Federal Relations.

Substitute for House bill No. 102 was taken up, read a second time, and Senator Pehle offered the following amendment:

Amend by adding the following proviso to section 7103, to wit: "Provided, That the county court, if they deem advisable, can at any time, invest any portion of said school fund in United States bonds or bonds of the State of Missouri; said bonds to be held in trust for the township to which the fund belonged, and to be so expressed upon the public records of the county."

Pending further consideration, the bill and amendment were referred to the Committee on Education.

Senator DeArmond submitted the following report from the Committee on Judiciary:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Judiciary, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 17, entitled "An act respecting the probate court in the county of Jackson," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that the following amendment be adopted, and make no further recommendation.

The bill so reported, being Senate bill No. 17 was taken up, and the following amendment offered by the committee:

"Amend by striking out section 2, and numbering section 3 section 2;" was read first and second times and adopted, and the bill ordered engrossed.

Senator Manistre moved to reconsider the vote by which House bill No. 1 was referred to the Committee on Judiciary; which was adopted.

The bill was then taken up, and referred to the Committee on Internal Improvements.

A message was received from the Govornor, through his private Secretary, Mr. Farr.

Senator Walker presented a report of the Board of Curators of the State University which was laid upon the table, and 2,000 copies ordered printed, 1,000 for the appendix, 500 for the use of the Senate, and 500 for the use of the University.

On motion of Senator Mackay, at 11:05 the Senate went into executive session.

At 11:30 the Senate resumed its regular session.

On motion of Senator Morrisson, the Senate adjourned until tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.

Senator Heaston introduced Senate bill No. 80, entitled "An act authorizing the Adjutant-General to secure the adjustment and settlement of claims of this State against the United States for military services performed by the military forces of this State in suppressing the rebellion;" which was read first time and 50 copies ordered printed.

Senator Morrisson introduced Senate bill No. 84, entitled "An act to consolidate the permanent school fund and the seminary fund in certificates of indebtedness of the State bearing six per cent. interest, and to provide for canceling the State bonds and certificate of indebtedness now held by the State in trust for said funds," which was read first time and 50 copies ordered printed.

Senators Bradley and Caldwell were granted leave of absence for one day.

Senator Heaston, from the Committee on Printing, offered the following resolution, which was read first and second time and adopted: Resolved, That the printer be instructed to print all bills for the Senate in pamphlet form unless otherwise directed.

Senator Rogers submitted the following report from the Committee on State Lands:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on State Lands, to whom was referred the communication of the State Auditor in relation to erroneous sale of a certain tract of land therein described, beg leave to report that they have examined the same, together with the records in the office of the Register of Lands, and find that the facts set forth in said report are true, to wit: That the State of Missouri did on the 31st day of May, A. D. 1855, sell the tract of land described in said report, to James R. Lindley of Dade Co., Mo.; and that subsequently, on the 12th day of August, A. D. 1857, did again sell the same tract of land to Alexander H. Henderson, of Callaway county, Mo., and that by reason of said sale and grant of letters patent to James R. Lindley, the title of Alexander H. Henderson was rendered null and void. Your committee further find that by reason of the facts above stated, and contained in the communication of the State Auditor, above referred to, that the heirs of the said Alexander H. Henderson, now deceased, are entitled to relief as provided in section 6160 of the Revised Statutes, and herewith submit a bill providing for the same.
