3 But thou, O JEHOVAH! art to me a shield; thou art my glory, and the raiser up of mine head. 4 I call upon JEHOVAH with my voice; and he heareth me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down, I sleep, I awake again; for JEHOVAH sustaineth me. 6 I am not afraid of the myriads of people who set themselves against me on all sides. 7 Arise, O JEHOVAH! save me, my GOD for thou canst smite the jaws of all mine enemies; thou canst break the teeth of the wicked. 8. Deliverance cometh from JEHOVAH: may thy blessing, O JEHOVAH! be upon thy people! PSALM IV. HEAR me, when I invoke thee, O JEHOVAH! the protector of mine innocence ! thou art wont to relieve me when I have been in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. ye 2 Ye sons of men! how long will asperse my reputation? how long will ye L3 love love delusion, and seek after disappointment ? 3 Know that JEHOVAH distinguisheth the righteous man: when I call upon JEHOVAH, he heareth me. 4 Stand in awe, and commit not the sin that is in your hearts; consider this upon your beds, and be quiet. 5 Offer the sacrifice of righteousness; and place your trust in JEHOVAH. 6 But many of you say: "Who will show us plenty?" 7 O JEHOVAH! the light of thy countenance hath greatly shone upon us. 8 Thou makest mine heart more glad than theirs is, even when their corn, and wine, and oil are increased. 9 I will lie down to rest, and sleep in peace; for thou alone, O JEHOVAH! canst make me to repose in safety. PSALM V. GIVE ear, O JEHOVAH ! unto my words consider my complaints : 2 Hearken thou unto my lamentation, my king, and my GOD! for unto thee I make my prayer. 3 Early 3 Early in the morning, O JEHOVAH! thou hearest my voice; early in the morning I look up, and direct my prayer unto thee: 4 For thou art not a GOD that favourest the wicked: the evil-doer cannot dwell with thee: 5 Arrogant boasters cannot stand in thy sight; thou hatest all those who work iniquity: 6 Thou destroyest those who speak lies; JEHOVAH abhorreth the blood-thirsty and deceitful man. 7 But as for me, through thine exceeding favour, I will re-enter into thine house; and, with reverence, will I worship in thy holy temple. 8 Conduct me, O JEHOVAH! according to thy justice; make thy way plain before me, because of mine enemies: 9 For there is no truth in their mouths; inwardly they are all depravity : 10 They speak smoothly with their tongues; while their throats are open sepulchres. 11 Hold them guilty, o GOD! let them fall by their own counsels: cast them L 4 off off because of the multitude of their of fences, for they rebel against thee. 12 Then will all, who trust in thee, rejoice; they will ever be giving thanks, because thou, o JEHOVAH! defendest them. 13 All those who love thy name will be joyful in thee because thou, O JEHOVAH! blessest the righteous man; and encompassest him with thy favourable kindness as with a shield. PSALM VI. REPROVE me not, O JEHOVAH ! in thine indignation; neither chasten me in thy great displeasure. 2 Have mercy upon me, O JEHOVAH ! for I am weak; heal me, O JEHOVAH! for my bones are troubled. 3 My soul also is exceedingly troubled: yet, O JEHOVAH ! how long wilt thou delay to help me? 4 Return, o JEHOVAH! and relieve my soul; oh, save me for thy mercy's sake! 5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee; and, in the grave, who shall celebrate thee? 6 I am exhausted by my groans; every night I bedew my bed, and deluge my couch with my tears. 7 Mine eyes are wasted with grief; they are grown dim with weeping, because of mine adversaries. 8 Depart from me, all ye who work iniquity; for JEHOVAH hath heard my la mentation: 9 JEHOVAH hath listened to my supplication: JEHOVAH hath accepted my prayer. IO All mine enemies shall be abashed and confounded; they shall be turned back, and be put to shame suddenly. PSALM VII. O JEHOVAH! my GOD! in thee I place my trust; save and deliver me from all mine enemies: 2 Lest, like a lion, they seize me for their prey, while there is none to save and deliver me. 30 JEHOVAH! my GOD! if I have done this-if the iniquity, with which I am charged, be in mine hands: 4 It I have repaid friendship with evil, or molested mine enemy without cause: |
