Senator Bland presented a petition from citizens of Clinton county, Missouri, asking for a change in the dramshop law; which was referred to the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senator Byrns submitted the following report from the Commitee on Criminal Jurisprudence, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 227, entitled "An act to amend section 5607, chapter 103, Revised Statutes, entitled 'Of fees,"" beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it

do pass.

Senate bill No. 227 was taken up and ordered engrossed.

Senator Byrns submitted the following report from the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, which was read:

On second reading of Senate bills, the following were read and referred:

Senate bill No. 245, entitled "An act to reorganize the geological survey of the State of Missouri," to Committee on Mines and Manufactures.

Senate bill No. 246, entitled "An act to relieve the Supreme Court from the necessity of preparing written opinions in certain cases," to Committee on Judiciary.

Senate bill No. 247, entitled "An act to provide for the indexing of the minutes of judges of courts of record in certain cases," to Committee on Judiciary.

Senate bill No. 248, entitled "An act as to searches and certificates as to judgments," to Committee on Judiciary.

Senator Cottey offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted:

Resolved, 1. That the public printer be instructed to print the engrossed revenue bill at once, and that he give it precedence over all other matters until completed.

2. That the Secretary promptly furnish the printer with a copy of this resolution.

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 173, entitled "An act in relation to bonds of ex-officio collectors," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass.

Senate bill No. 173 was taken up and ordered engrossed.

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 182, entitled "An act to amend section 7628, article 1 of chapter 164 of the Revised Statutes, entitled 'Of the State Treasury,'" beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass.

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 232, entitled "An act for the relief of Edward Price, and to appropriate money therefor," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass. Senate bill No. 232 was taken up and ordered engrossed.

Senator DeArmond submitted the following report from the Committee on Judiciary, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Judiciary to whom was referred House bill No. 235, entitled "An act to amencsection 2963, article 6, chapter 44, and section 4030, chapter 72, Revised Statutes, concerning services of subpoenas," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendments.

House bill No. 235 was taken up, and the following amendment reported by the committee, was agreed to:

Amend by prefixing to the first line, after enacting clause, the fol

lowing: "Section 1;" and by inserting "either " between "served " and "by," and "by" between "or" and "any," in the tenth line of the bill; and by prefixing to the eighteenth line "section 2;" and by striking out "all" between "in" and "civil," in the thirty-fourth line of the bill.

The bill, as amended, was then read third time and passed by the following vote:

The title of the bill was read and agreed to.

Senator DeArmond moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill passed, and to lay the motion to reconsider on the table; the latter motion prevailed.

Senator Jacobs was granted leave of absence until next Thursday.

On motion of Senator Edwards of St. Charles, the Senate took a recess for twenty minutes.

The recess having expired, the President called the Senate to order.

By consent, Senator Heard offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That one thousand copies of the address delivered on the occasion of the presentation to this State of the portrait of Hon. Edward Hempstead, be delivered to the Missouri Historical Society for the use of said society, and for distribution by it.

The following message was received from the House of Representatives, through Mr. Hawley, Chief Clerk:

MR. PRESIDENT: I am instructed by the House, to inform the Senate that the House has taken up and passed substitute for House joint and concurrent resolution No. 1, memorializing Congress to oppose the passage of a bankrupt law:
