Senator Morrisson submitted the following report from the Committee on Education, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Education, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 243, entitled "An act to amend chapter 129, Revised Statutes, 1879, 'Of merchants licenses,' by adding a new section thereto providing for the assessment and collection of school taxes by collectors," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendment.

Senate bill No. 243 was taken up and the following amendment reported by the committee was read first and second times and 50 copies ordered printed:

Amend by striking out all after the enacting clause and inserting the following: Section 1. Add to chapter 129 of the Revised Statutes, "Of merchants' licenses," a new section to be numbered section 6341, as follows: The collector of the revenue in cities having more than three hundred thousand inhabitants shall assess and collect upon all statements of merchants and manufactures received by him under any law or ordinance of such city the same rate for school tax which is assessed on real estate for school purposes during the current year in which such licenses are issued.

Senator Edwards of St. Charles submitted the following reports from the Committee on Engrossed bills, which were read:

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Engrossed Bills, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 169, entitled "An act to amend section 790, chapter 21, article 2, Revised Statutes, entitled Railroad companies,"" beg leave to report that they have compared the same and find it to be truly engrossed, and that the printed copies thereof furnished to the Senators are correct.

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means to whom was referred Senate bill No. 251, entitled "An act to amend sections 5083, 5084 and 5089, article 7, chapter 91, Revised Statutes, entitled 'Commissioner of Permanent Seat of Government,'" beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendments.

Senate bill No. 251 was taken up and the following amendment, reported by the committee, was agreed to:

Amend by striking out all after the enacting clause, and insert in lieu thereof the following: Section 1. That section 5083, chapter 91 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, be and the same is hereby amended, by striking out the words "three hundred and fifty," in lines 6 and 7, and by inserting in lieu thereof the following words: "six hundred," so that said section as amended, shall read as follows: Section 5083. There shall be appointed by the Governor and Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer and Attorney-General, a Commissioner of the Permanent Seat of Government, who shall hold his office at the pleas

ure of said Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer and Attorney-General, and shall receive such compensation as they shall determine, not to exceed six hundred dollars a year.

Senator Cottey offered the following amendment to the title, which was read and agreed to:

Amend the title by striking out the same, and insert in lieu thereof the following: "An act to amend section 5083, chapter 91 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, entitled 'Commissioner of Permanent Seat of Government.""

The bill was then ordered engrossed by the following vote, the ayes and nays being demanded:

Senator Byrns submitted the following report from the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, which was read:

Senator DeArmond submitted the following report from the Committee on Judiciary, which was read:

Senate bill No. 249 was taken up and ordered engrossed.

Senator Cottey submitted the following report from the Committee on Ways and Means, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred substitute for House bill No. 164, entitled "An act to provide for the reimbursement of certain townships in certain counties of the State of Missouri out of the State revenue, for moneys heretofore paid into the State Treasury belonging to said townships," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendment.

Substitute for House bill No. 164, entitled "An act to provide for the reimbursement to certain townships in certain counties of the State of Missouri, out of the State revenue, for moneys heretofore paid into the State Treasury belonging to said townships;" was taken up and the following amendment reported by the committee was read:

Amend section 3 by striking out the words "a sufficient sum," in

line 2, printed bill, and inserting in lieu thereof the following: "the sum of two thousand dollars, ($2,000.00)."

The ayes and noes being demanded, the amendment was agreed to by the following vote:

House bill No. 444 was taken up, and laid over informally.
