PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION.-In preparing a Second
Edition of this little book, the opportunity has been taken of
correcting several errors which the First Edition contained. The
whole has been carefully revised, and such additions have through-
out been made, as the advanced state of knowledge rendered
necessary. In particular, the Tables of Analyses have been
greatly extended, by the addition of the latest and most com-
plete Analysis of almost all those plants which are cultivated as
crops, as well of the principal substances employed as manure.
