'HOUGH the following Meets are written
by a Disenter, I trust no one will think this circumstance a sufficient reason, for refusing them a candid perufal. They contain at the same time the sentiments of a Protestant, and a Christian ; free from all bigotted attachment to any party, or fiery zeal to any denomination of Christians. I disent from the Established Church, because I think in many instances, her doEtrine, discipline, and spirit are unfavourable to the cause of virtue, and to the honour and success of the Christian' religion : and that the principles and mode of worship amongst the Dissenters I have described, are much more rational, and more agreeable to the do&trine of the New Testament. I am a Non-conformist, I hope, not from education or prejudice, but from conviction : nor am I ashamed of any opprobrious
name, with which I may be sigmatized for my religious sentiments, so long as it appears to me that I have reason, and the New Testament, to support what I espouse and profess. At the same time I acknowledge myself open to conviction; and if it can be proved to me that I am in an error, I will immediately embrace any form of worship, which shall appear more confonant to the religion of Jesus Christ. Till this shall be the case, I must be of opinion, that the cause I have espoused, merits the counte-, nance and support of the friends of pure and undefiled religion. Among persons of this description, I will therefore hope, that this Work will meet with a favourable reception.
